Packing can be easy if you stick to the essentials. Ensure you have your passport (plus copies), travel insurance documents, and credit/debit cards alongside a small amount of cash, especially for smaller towns. Don't forget an adapter (Italy uses Type C, F, or L plugs at 230V) to keep your devices charged. The key to comfort is comfortable walking shoes for navigating all those beautiful cobblestone streets. For your day trips, a lightweight day bag or crossbody is perfect for carrying your essentials. Even outside of peak summer, pack swimwear as the sea can be warm enough in late spring and early fall. Finally, protect yourself from the Mediterranean sun with sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, stay hydrated with a reusable water bottle, and bring any necessary medications plus a small first aid kit.
☀ Summer (June–September)
Sicily is very hot during summer, so bring lightweight, breathable clothing like cotton or linen tops, shorts, and dresses. Pack comfortable sandals for walking, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for protection from the strong sun. You’ll need swimwear, a beach cover-up, and flip-flops for the coast. A light sweater or denim jacket can be useful in the evenings when temperatures drop slightly, and a light scarf is good for visiting churches or shielding from the sun.
🍂 Fall (October–November)
Days are usually mild in fall, but mornings and evenings can be cool. Pack layers such as t-shirts, blouses, light sweaters, and jeans or pants. A lightweight jacket or cardigan will be useful, along with closed-toe shoes or sneakers for walking. Rain is possible, so include an umbrella or light raincoat. If you’re visiting in early October, you may still want to bring swimwear since the sea can remain warm.
🌸 Spring (April–May)
Spring weather is comfortable, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Bring a mix of light clothing like t-shirts, jeans, or casual pants, and include a few sweaters or a light jacket for cooler evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for sightseeing. A swimsuit can also be useful from late April onward when the temperatures rise. A scarf or shawl is handy for layering or when visiting religious sites.
❄ Winter (December–March)
Winters in Sicily are mild but can be damp and chilly, especially near the coast. Pack jeans or long pants, long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, and a warm jacket. Closed shoes or ankle boots are best for cooler weather and occasional rain. Bring a scarf, hat, and umbrella to stay comfortable. If you plan to visit Mount Etna or higher elevations, pack a heavier coat and warmer layers.
